Zhongshan City is the hometown of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the great revolutionary forerunner. It covers 1800 square kilometers with 24 towns under its jurisdiction. Zhongshan City is situated in the center of the Pearl River Delta, adjacent to Hongkong & Macao, only separated from them by the sea, and close to Guangzhou on the north.

The climate is delightful here, with an average temperature of 22 Centigrade. In recent years, the city has won such honors as National Clean City, National Advanced Unit with Excellent Planning & Management, National Garden City, National Model City in Environmental Protection, National Tourism City with Excellent Practices, National Model City with Excellent Transportation, National Advanced City in the Campaign of Building Culturally Advanced Cities, Civilized City of Guangdong Province. UN's Habitat Scroll of Honor Award was granted to Zhongshan in 1997.

Located in the east part of Zhongshan, Zhongshan Torch Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone was jointly established by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Guangdong Provincial Government and Zhongshan Municipal Government in March 1990, and was approved as one of the state-level hi-tech industrial development zones by State Council in March 1991. At present, China Electronics (Zhongshan) Base, China Packaging and Printing Industrial Base, National Health Technology Base and National Hi-tech Products Exporting Base have been set up on this piece of hot land.
