Description?o  Shandong University of Science and Technology (SUST), a provincial key university, extends comprehensive education in engineering, science, management, humanities and law while giving prominence to engineering and integrating science and engineering. SUST is subordinated to Shandong Provincial People's Government and managed by the Education department of Shandong Province. The University currently operates in two locations with campuses situated respectively in Tai'an-a tourist resort well-known for Mt. Taishan, and Jinan, the provincial capital known as a "city of springs". There are 13 colleges and 3 directly-affiliated departments with a total of 45 specialties for undergraduates, 2 primary and 4 secondary discipline doctoral program designations, and 25 master's degree program designations, 3 engineering master's degree authorization domains, 8 key provincial/ministerial level disciplines and laboratories, and 4 provincially strengthened disciplines and laboratories during the Tenth Five-year Plan period. There are also 5 provincial level engineering and technology research centers and a foreign language training center designated by the State Foreign Experts Affairs Bureau. The Russian Academy of Natural Sciences set up China Science Center at SUST (the only one in China). Campus computer networks have been established and connected to the International Netware.

SUST currently enrolls 17000 full-time students, including 609 doctoral and Master's degree candidates as well as over 9000 adult education undergraduates. SUST has an excellent faculty with a total of 2220, including 140 professors and 420 associate professors: 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; 5 foreign academicians of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences; 2 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and 4 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering as specially engaged professors; 41 doctorate supervisors; 6 professors honored as "State young and middle-aged experts of outstanding contributions",44 provincial/ministerial top level professionals; and 62 academics enjoying "Special State Government Subsidy". SUST has also engaged 4 academicians from either the Chinese Academy of Sciences or the Chinese Academy of Engineering as adjunct professors and honorary deans of its colleges.

SUST is noted for its basic research, application research and potentials in scientific and technological development, and enjoys an integrated academic advantage due to its cross- and multi-disciplinary features. It has undertaken numerous state, ministerial, provincial and municipal level scientific projects and achieved fruitful results in over 200 projects. SUST's annual funds for scientific research now amounts to 35 million yuan.

SUST has established friendly relations with academic and research institutions in more than 10 countries and regions such as Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, France, Germany, Canada, Australia, Russia, Austria, Switzerland, India, Hongkong and Taiwan. More than 50 students form Japan, Russia, Singapore and other countries have come to SUST for advanced studies recently. In addition, SUST has hosted or helped to host several international symposiums.

The past 40-odd years witnessed the unremitting efforts of the faculty and the students and the growth of the school spirit-Be United, Diligent, Truth-seeking and Creative. Both the faculty and students are striving to build SUST into a comprehensive university of high quality.
